| KEN'S
EARLY BEGINNINGS... |
Lifelong
choir geek, singing and live music have been a source
of much enjoyment and may friends over the years. From
numerous honor choirs all through school, to friends with
bands in Osage, Iowa during Jr. High ("Limelight"
anyone?), as well as in Elkhardt, Idiana during High School
("Rage"/ "Circus"/ "Rock Bottom"),
and again in Cedar Rapids after moving back from Maui
in '97.
A
friend and veteran of the local music scene, Don Crippen,
introduced him to his high school classmate and guitarist
Mark Shelton, who happpened to have a drum set, too. Motivated
by too much vocal mediocrity and the desire to finally
get off his ass and do something about it, in May 2002,
Ken started working on coordinating his limbs and vocal
chords while the two started working up a set list.
By
October he bought his first drum set and their musician
search had yielded 2nd guitarist Dennis Hite and bassist
Adam Draeger. The first gig was played in June '03 under
the name, "Blind Ambition", but underwent a
swap of 2nd guitarist after just 2 gigs. Enter BYRON WOOTEN,
and in March, '03 the band, "Blind Lab Rats"
(BLR) was born.
BLR enjoyed much success and fun in the Cedar Rapids area
at various functions, highlighted by an opening spot for
the Jeff Healey Band at the Chrome Horse "grand opening"
Summer of 2004.
Soon after, Bassist Adam Draeger announced he would be
re-locating to Pella, Iowa for a new day job. The band
dissolved and went their separate ways, sealing the fate
of Blind Lab Rats.
Ken started assembling another band, "Monkey Business",
and during the birth stages, he kept busy in varying capacity,
singing for Iowa City based band, "Bigfoot",
and singing/drumming for Cedar Rapids based "Boneshaker"
before the official debut of the line-up you see here.
And the rest is history...
